Chasing Trains - Big and Little

In the last newsletter, President Keith had an excellent write up on the restoration of C&O 1309 for use on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
A couple of additional details:
-The 1309 was the last steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for domestic use . This was in Sept. 1949
- !#09 is a compound locomotive and will be one of a very few compounds operating world wide.. Compounding which was a French invention uses steam from the boiler to feed two high pressure cylinders. The steam then passes on to two low pressure cylinders before being exhausted out the stack.. The exhaust has an unusual CHUFF_CHUFF  chuff chuff sound when working in the compound mode.

As of this date, Aug 6, Norfolk Southern has not yet posted a schedule for main line running of the 765. The engine will make some trips on
Cuyhoga Valley Scenic Railway in eastern Ohio Sept 6th -13th. Details can be obtained from the railroad at 1 800 468 4070.

The September issue of Trains Magazine contains an article in its map of the month column titled Pennsylvania's Steel City Gateway
The detailed map of the Mainline covers Pitcairn to Johnstown and shows present and former routes.
